About the Event

Location:  Case Natural Resource Park is located on the Eastside at Kenyon and Bonanza (south of Broadway, east of Harrison). Almost all of the park is Sonoran desert with lots of trails, a couple of washes, many slopes with reentrants, and plenty of desert vegetation. There is also a small area with a playground, picnic tables and a paved nature path.

Courses:  There will be a Sprint course and a Score course. The Sprint course is a regular 3km point-to-point course. The Score course allows you to visit as many or as few of the controls as you wish, in any order. There will be a 1-hour time limit for both courses. All the controls will be on or near a trail, so this event is suitable for all skill levels.  And for the very youngest (3-10) we'll have Animal Orienteering, a spatial game that doesn't require map reading at all.  The kids follow a progression of challenges by finding pictures of animals hidden throughout the play area.

Maps:  The map will be a regular orienteering map showing contours, trails, washes, vegetation and point features. Scale will be 1:2750. Maps will be provided to all participants at the event site.

Schedule:

  • 8:30 Check in.
  • 9:00 First chance to start.
  • 11:00 Last chance to start.
  • 12:00 Courses close.
