Tucson orienteers were treated to a beautiful spring morning and yet another fun course set by Jeff Brucker, this time at Udall Park. Almost 50 orienteers set out on the aerial photo score course, with about one third of participants clearing the course (visiting all 30 locations). Alan Craig notched the fastest time at 45 minutes, with a five minute margin to the next fastest competitor.
There were a few questions whose answers were controversial, and in the end credit was given to anyone with a reasonable answer.
There were many new faces today! A big welcome to all first-timers and few-timers who made it out.

Special Note: I gave credit for controls 46, 47, and 60 in the south of the map to all those who were there, even if they had the wrong answer. The reason is that a control feature should not be too close to a similar feature. There should be no confusion. But in all three cases, one of the false answers was actually true if you were at the nearby similar feature. In the case of 46, which was a mound with asphalt on top, there was a larger mound just outside the circle which also had asphalt. In the case of 47, which was a white post on the other side of a gate, there was a similar gate with a white post 50 meters away along the fenceline. In the case of 60, which was a gate, there was also a similar gate nearby. #52 also confused a couple of folks, but I did not give credit for that. The clue was the color (black) of the gate next to four palm trees. Well, about 1 block south there was a cluster of palm trees but they were in the front yard and not near the gate (grey), and they were 100 meters outside the circle. - Jeff Brucker
