38 people, 12 hours, 6 courses, ONE last one standing!

People traveled from all over the country to experience the first Lost One Standing event in Arizona.  We saw lots of different strategies in the selection of which course to start with, which ones to hit in the middle of the afternoon and which ones to save until dark.  With every mass start the number of runners scattering in different directions dwindled until 6 intrepid people (including the Last Woman Standing!) remained at 8 pm to tackle their final course.  It was a head-to-head competition, as the tiebreaker is the finish time for the final course, and 5 people had chosen to run the Night Owl last.

Joe Barrett ran his fastest loop of the day, coming in at 50:47 for the overall Lost One Standing win.  Patrick Corrigan crossed the line next but unfortunately he had a mis-punch in his 5th course and he was out of the running for the Assist.  JP Lande took the Assist instead, followed by Calvin Olson, Mark Prior, and Jeff Coker.  Billie Braimah started the Hilly Goat but ran out of time to complete it before 10 pm.  She won the Last Woman Standing title, 6th place overall.

In the Brown category (all courses completed regardless of time), 7 women tied for "Most Persistent Women" by finishing 3 courses: B. Brooke Mann, Johanna O'Dell, Recinda Sherman, Sharon Crawford, Siri Christopherson, Sue Kuestner, and Telia Curtis.  Calvin, Mark, and Jeff won the Brown division with 6 courses, followed by Jason Poole, John Crowther, Patrick Corrigan, and Stephen Pepe with 5.  Shout out to Alex Pichler who was somehow the only person to complete 4 (and only 4) courses.

25 runners completed at least the first course in under 2 hours and many continued on to see how many they could finish.  "Persistence" was the name of the game and a lot of people came to play.

4 people competed in the 4-hour rogaine, with Nancy Coker coming out on top at 21 controls.  Jeff Brodsky was top male with 20 controls, followed closely by Joe Ratermann with 19.  Betsy Lubis stayed on the course the longest (most persistent in the rogaine) and located 7 controls.

Congratulations to everyone who went out on the course and gave it a go!  Thank you for trusting us to experiment with this novel format and showing up to be a part of it.

Huge thank you to our amazing volunteers - this event would not have happened without you.  Peg Davis ran the hash house for hours and kept people fed.  John Beard vetted the courses and worked diligently behind the scenes including equipment transport, setup, parking, assisting with starts, and take-down.  JoeP served quesadillas, helped with the hash house, and provided power with his Rivian truck.  Stephen Pepe created a superb spreadsheet for runner tracking and results.  Sasha and Alan helped with parking and pre-event setup.  Melissa and Lukas ran the morning check-in.  Gloria quickly learned the computer system and kept the live spreadsheet up-to-date for the outside world to watch in real time.  Annie helped in the hash house.  Sunday control retrieval (greatly appreciated) was done by Ron Birks, Yvonne Poe, Recinda Sherman, Alexandre Savine, Sharon Crawford, Brian Durrell, Joel Norby, Peg Davis, the Osborns (Jason, Logan, and Cole), John Beard, Cristina Luis, and Marcy Beard.
