Sixteen participants took to the Lakeside hills on a lovely, overcast, Sunday morning for a muggy jaunt around the park! Despite the high humidity, the threat of trouble with a neighbor’s dog, plenty of fisherfolk, and disc golfers sharing the park, today’s orienteers were sweaty but smiling when they returned to the finish line!

Official MapRun first place finishers were Logan, Cole, and Jason Osborn. Followed shortly by Alan Craig and Jeff Brodsky. A gaggle of three Trail Life kids and scout leader Valerie Pope braved the explorer course and found their way all around the park.

Several runners inadvertently mis-punched. Interestingly, all missed control number one, suggesting to this course setter that perhaps there were some technical issues with the course or spotty GPS signal from the cloudy sky, and perhaps they should get credit anyway! If so, Katie Osborn edged out the rest of her family with an impressive time!

Finally, Billie Braimah ran the course without the benefit of the MapRun app and put up a blistering overall time of 21:12—with good evidence to suggest that she’d visited all the appropriate control locations. We’ll mark her results with an asterisk and take her word for it—great job, Billie!

Many thanks to Peg for giving the beginner’s clinic! All were delighted to see Jeff Brucker, who came to visit and give his thoughts amidst the post-course chatter. Jeff, as always, was instrumental in getting this MapRun off the ground, including offering his advice and guidance (and then some!) to this newbie MapRun facilitator. Thanks so much, Jeff! Cristina Luis offered instructions and vital feedback for completing base map updates, served as course consultant, and provided tech support throughout the process, despite her international travels! Thanks, Cristina!
