About the Event
Get out of the city for some orienteering in beautiful Empire Ranch, at the site of the 2025 SWSW mini-rogaine! We are hosting a members-only, free event on Sunday, November 23rd.
Location: Maternity Well Group Site, Empire Ranch.
Courses: Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced courses point-to-point courses. The Advanced will have a short option. There will also be an Explorer (score) course available, suitable for orienteers with some experience.
Maps: 1:10000 scale maps will be provided to all participants at the event site.
Schedule:
9:15 am Free beginners’ clinic starts. Please arrive 15 minutes early if you wish to attend.
TBD Free intermediate clinic starts. Topic: TBD
9:00 am Check in opens
9:00 am First chance to start.
11:00 am Last chance to start.
1:00 pm Courses close.
Registration: Pre-registration is required in order to keep an eye on crowd size and prepare the right number of maps. See the "Fees" section below for member's and junior's discounts. Everyone must register as an individual even if you plan on going as a team. See who has already signed up. Registration closes at noon on Saturday, November 22.
Directions and Parking: Maternity Well Group Site on Google Maps. From I-10 in Tucson take exit 281 for SR 83. Take SR 83 south for 35 miles and then take a left on Empire Ranch Rd. The turn off for the Maternity Well Group Site is about one mile down the road, on the right.
What to Bring:
Safety whistle is required (whistles are available on site)
Compass (compass can be borrowed on site)
Water (and snacks if desired)
Watch or phone (so you can finish on time)
E-punch: This event uses e-punching for timing and punch verification. We'll show you how to use it if you've never done it before and we'll have e-punch sticks to loan if you do not have your own.
Fees: This event is free, and you must be a current member of the Tucson Orienteering Club to participate. Check whether you are a member and join now if not. Membership is based on the calendar year, but it is only $12 for individuals and $18 for families (or no more than registration for a regular event open to the public would be).
Youth Participants: All participants under 18 must provide a waiver signed by a parent or legal guardian. For details see our Instructions for Minors. These instructions are for anyone who will be bringing a minor child under 18 to an event.
Volunteer to Help at Event: We can always use volunteer help at the event. Don’t worry if you haven’t volunteered before, we can show you. You can volunteer when registering online. Or you can volunteer here, and your message will be forwarded to the meet director.
Safety Information: To ensure that all are safe, everyone, whether finished with the course or not, must check in formally at Start/Finish before courses close and before leaving the event site.
