About the Event
“Always two, there are. No more. No less.”
On May 4th, Star Wars Day, let us recall the wise words of Master Yoda as we tackle a partnered orienteering challenge. Grab your best Sith Lord buddy (no betraying each other, please) and join us at Reid Park!
The format is thus:
One partner will be at the ramada with a map. The other partner will be out in the field punching controls, without a map. The partner at the ramada must give clear directions to their partner via cellphone in order to complete the course. Halfway through, the field partner will return to the ramada, there will be a map exchange, and the two partners will switch places.
Bonus points if you are married and/or living with your orienteering partner. Thank you in advance for risking your relationship on what is sure to be a rewarding but potentially frustrating course.
Location: Reid Park, Ramada 17 (near the dog park), 32°12'38.4"N 110°55'30.9"W
Courses: One course, two parts. Each partner will have about 12 or so controls to find. There may be forks in the course at the setter’s discretion. No following!
If you insist, you can do the course by yourself or an explorer version. But you’ll be jealous of all the fun the partners are having. If you can’t find a partner, we can pair you up with someone at the event.
Maps: Scale 1:4000, contour interval 2m. Maps will be provided to all participants at the event site.
Schedule:
7:30am: Check in
7:45am: Free beginners’ clinic starts.
8:00am: First chance to start.
9:00am: Last chance to start.
